New wine shop opens to sell award winning local vintages

A local woman has won awards for her 2015 wines.

Sandy Luck and her team at Aldwick Court Farm and Vineyard has just three new 2015 vintage English wines and celebrated the opening of their new wine shop where customers can buy direct from the producer.

At a recent opening of her new shop, between Butcombe and the A38 in North Somerset, Sandy was delighted to reveal her new release 2015 wines have won Gold and Silver medals in prestigious national awards.  Also, Aldwick’s white sparkling, Jubilate 2013, has also just been ranked among the highest scoring sparkling wines in a national UK wine panel tasting held by wine magazine ‘Decanter’.

Sandy said: “As a relatively young UK vineyard, to receive recognition from the prestigious UK Vineyard Association for our Mary’s Rose and Finbarr white, makes us all very proud indeed.  With news about our Jubilate 2013 too, we are over the moon, as our customers and venue guests continually voice a preference for a more fruit-driven, uniquely English-style fizz.  This combined with our 2015 vintage wines tasting better than ever, these latest awards further endorse that we are developing the vineyard in the right direction.”

The three new 2015 English season wines now available include:

Mary’s Rose 2015  – a pretty pale pink wine with an appealing delicate redcurrant nose.  It is full and fresh with a lively spritz. The wine comprises a mix of Pinot Noir, Solaris and Regent grapes.

Bacchus 2015  – a characterful wine with a fresh green floral nose.  The notably ripe fruit delivers good depth and super length.  This comprises 100% Bacchus grape.

Finbarr 2015 – a clean and fresh wine featuring a very distinctive nose with delicate lemonade and sherbet notes. It is a combination of Madeleine Angevine and Seyval Blanc grapes.

Recognition is particularly significant as the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition is the only competition run by the industry for UK wine makers and is judged by a highly experienced and respected Masters of Wine panel. The competition is national and positions Aldwick’s wines alongside the UK’s top quality wines and more established vineyards and winemakers in the country.

Aldwick’s Jubilate 2013 sparkling white fizz has just been “highly recommended” in wine magazine Decanter’s August issue following the most recent UK white sparkling wine panel tasting.  Master of Wine, authority on English wine and respected panel judge, Stephen Skelton, recognised Aldwick’s Jubilate as one of the highest scoring UK sparkling wines made from non-champagne variety grapes.

Aldwick wines can be purchased directly from the newly opened vineyard shop, where there’s an opportunity for tastings and discussions with those well informed about the crafting of Aldwick’s English wines.

Alternatively wines are available from local shops and tours of the vineyard are available online, www.aldwickcourtfarm.co.uk.
