First Bus makes significant changes to the A2 timetable from Sunday 24 April.
The service which served North Somerset’s villages will be significantly shortened. It will no longer travel on to Portishead, Clevedon and Nailsea from Wrington. It will run from Weston via Banwell, Winscombe, Sandford, Churchill and Wrington then stop at Bristol Airport.
Deborah Yamanaka, councillor for Wrington said: “I was very sorry to hear that First Bus were shortening the route of the A2 bus to end at the airport. It will probably cut down even further on bus use by Wrington residents, as I know that some of them travel to Nailsea by bus for the supermarkets and other shops and facilities there.
“In common with other villages, Wrington has lost shops and banks over the years, and the decreasing bus service means that some residents have moved away to live in towns. Only residents with cars are likely to move into Wrington, and so the bus has increasingly fewer passengers. The old 121 service was not subsidised which was why First Bus replaced it with the shorter A2 route – I worry for Wrington’s bus service without a subsidy.”
