Ahh Toots. The name keeps cropping up in foodie mags and festivals.
So wandering through St Nick's market one Wednesday morning I stumbled across such a yummy looking cake display. Resistance was useless. Ahh Toots calls itself an art focused cakery and biscuitier, and it's certainly as pretty as a picture.
My companion and I could not resist stopping in the small cafe. It's a very small tea room, but you sit in a spacious arcade opposite a florist. The cafe itself had the most beautiful mini-bouquets on the tables and around the cakes.
We sat on benches and watched as people passed. Quite a few shoppers stopped to buy takeaway goodies - this place has quite a reputation for sweet treats.
We shared a salted caramel brownie which was fabulous. The brownie was thin, firm and slightly crisp on the outside and intensely chocolatey within. We were slightly disappointed by the hot drinks; the flat white and hot chocolate were only just warm. We were in a rush so we didn't ask staff to put it right - but we loved the vibe, and the cake so much we will go back and try again.
