First Bus shortens A2 route

The A2 bus route from Weston-super-Mare which travels to Portishead via North Somerset villages Churchill, Wrington and Bristol Airport will be shortened, First Bus have announced.

The service will stop at Bristol Airport and will not travel to Backwell train station then to Nailsea, Clevedon and Portishead.  First Bus cite ‘very low customer usage’ as the reason for the change to the route.

Simon Gait, a Wrington resident said: “I have used the bus to travel to and from Bristol for work but it was far from ideal, a rambling route and a change of bus in Backwell. As a decent route to Bristol the A2 bus route was so bad I’m not surprised to hear that passenger numbers were too low to keep it going. Now we have to change buses at the airport and take the very expensive Airport Flyer, I doubt many will see that as a favourable option.”

“I think it is a real shame that there isn’t a short direct linking service from Wrington to the A370 to quickly link Wrington with the X1 Express service to Bristol or even to get us a little further to Yatton Station. That would be useful and joined up and may even tempt people out of their cars in a way that the existing service definitely doesn’t.”
